Leicester star Caglar Soyuncu sends heartfelt message as city rallies to Turkey appeal

The latest Leicester City news from Leicestershire Live brings you what the Turkish international has said after the city rallied to an appeal for vital items

Caglar Soyuncu has thanked the people of Leicester for their donations after an appeal to help those affected by the Turkey earthquake disaster.

The Turkish international wrote a heartfelt message on his Twitter account after sharing a post that appealed for vital items that would be sent to the country.

More than 5,400 people are reported to have been killed after a 7.8 magnitude quake struck near Gaziantep in the early hours of Monday, followed by a 7.5 magnitude tremor hours later.

Another 1,800 are also said to have been killed in Syria after the quake devastated both countries.

Homes and businesses were destroyed and a rescue effort is underway to find survivors in one of the worst disasters this century.

Survivors are in desperate need of aid and among the items people have been asked to donate are heaters, blankets, baby clothes and dry food.

And the people of Leicester and Foxes fans did their bit as Soyuncu shared a video of items being loaded into vans that will now be on their way to his homeland.

Posting on his Twitter account, Soyuncu wrote: “From Leicester to my dear country Turkey. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to aid collection from the bottom of my heart. God bless you.”
