Wolves sign ‘ really crucial’ midfielder ahead of deadline Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer news from BirminghamThe team has signed Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
Wolves have signed midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde from Strasbourg ahead of the transfer deadline.
The 25-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the club after the clubs agreed to a £12.8m fee to seal the move before the transfer window closed at 11 p.m.
Bellegarde, who can play in central midfield or out wide, has had a strong start to the season, scoring twice and assisting twice in three games. The former France under-21 international from Paris has spent the previous four years at the Ligue 1 club after joining from Lens.
“He’s a player the recruitment team flagged towards the end of last season, and he’s started this season very well,” said sporting director Matt Hobbs. He’s athletic, technical, and can drive with the ball, and his goal and assist totals show that he’s had a strong start to the season.
“He’s another player who adds depth to our lineup and brings something new to the table.” He’ll add innovation, and the overall result will be wonderful. With the runners we have up front, his athleticism from the middle of the pitch, as well as his strength and ability to find that final ball – as he shown in France – will be crucial to us.”
Bellegarde joins Tom King, Matt Doherty, Enso Gonzales, Santiago Bueno, and Tommy Doyle as Wolves’ sixth and final signing of the transfer window. Wolves are back in action on Sunday, when they travel to Crystal Palace.
