Son Heung-min’s injury update after Tottenham concern sparked ahead of South Korea vs. Saudi Arabia
Tottenham injury news as Son Heung-min fitness update emerges after fears on international duty
Tottenham star Son Heung-min has been selected in the South Korean side set to play Saudi Arabia at Newcastle’s St James’ Park on Tuesday evening after fears that he would miss the game through injury.
Images of Son walking with heavy strapping and an ice pack on his knee while on duty with his country emerged earlier in the day, sparking worries from Spurs fans that their captain had picked up a serious knock.
As it happens, Son is ready to captain his side for the game and has been picked to go from the start by former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann.
The injury, which was first seen after images of Son emerged from the Newcastle based training camp, is believed to have been picked up during a training drill. Son is said to have fell down with coaches worried for his fitness but he returned to finish the session afterwards.
It comes as a huge boost for both club and country as Son remains integral to both teams. He is now captain for each side and has started the year well under new manager Ange Postecoglou as well
With a hat-trick last time out for Spurs against Burnley he has formed a strong relationship with summer addition James Maddison. The pair have been key to the unbeaten start to the league campaign that continues on Saturday with a match against Sheffield United.
With three goals so far he has been back to his best after the sale of attacking partner Harry Kane. The 31-year-old has been unable to inspire his country to better results, though, and hasn’t been on the winning side since the final 2022 World Cup group stage match against Portugal.
