“According to reports, Jlloyd was returning home after dropping his kids off to school and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
“The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association and his former national teammates at this time extends deepest condolences to his family members both in the UK and here in Trinidad and Tobago.”
Peter Crouch and Aston Villa pals gave Peter Enckelman save nickname after howler
Ex-Aston Villa star Peter Crouch and his team-mates gave poor Peter Enckelman a tough new nickname after his iconic Premier League error against Birmingham City
Poor old Peter Enckelman doesn’t need reminding about the cruel nickname bestowed on him by his Aston Villa team-mates after his terrible blunder against Birmingham City.
However, unfortunately for Enckelman, that’s exactly what we’re about to do. The Finnish former goalkeeper is responsible for one of the most iconic errors in Premier League history, which occurred during a Second City Derby match between Villa and Birmingham in September 2002.
Enckelman famously mis-controlled a throw-in from Olof Mellberg, allowing the ball to slip under his boot and into the net. Although there was much deliberation about whether Enckelman even touched the ball and if the goal should’ve been allowed to stand, it was ultimately settled as an own goal.
Cue pandemonium at St Andrews and a new nickname for the now-46-year-old from his then-Villa team-mates, which included none other than a young Peter Crouch.
Speaking to Paddy Power ahead of the Merseyside derby in 2022, Crouch said: “We had two bad ones one year. I played in one game where [Dion] Dublin headbutted [Robbie] Savage, and that was a bad one.
“We lost both derbies that year and the reverse game was with the Peter Enckelman mistake when he let the ball in from a throw in. And Birmingham had only just been promoted, so that was a disaster. But they were always tight games and I don’t remember getting blown away in any derby like that.
