Leicester City head coach Enzo Maresca has spoken about the important performances of four key players, here is what the Italian has said and our thoughts.
During the post-match conference after the resounding Southampton victory, the Italian head coach was asked about the performance of Stephy Mavididi, who scored a goal, assisted a goal, and was the defining factor in the win. However, Maresca went further and commented on four players.
Over the course of the season, a few names stand out as those who have set the tempo, built the team around them, and made the difference where it matters most. One of those in my opinion has been the academy product Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, although the English midfielder was not included in the list provided by the head coach.
The Italian head coach has listed four players he feels has offered a lot for the Foxes. The King Power club’s difference makers are as follows:
“Stephy is an important player for us, but JJ was very good, Jannik was very good, Harry Winks was very good, Macca was very good”
So yes, although Mavididi has been excellent for the Foxes, Leicester has also seen the return of James Justin, the sudden surge of Jannik Vestergaard, the outrageously good value of Harry Winks, and the breakthrough starlet Kasey McAteer. Those four have set the tone for a successful first six matches.
McAteer is the top goal scorer with four, Vestergaard has been one of our best defenders and critical to how we defend, and Winks looks like one of the best progressive midfielders we could possibly have signed. Justin is a more interesting case: the English fullback has barely been used, but illustrated his defensive acumen and progressive intent during the Southampton tie. Bar a couple mistakes, JJ was amazing over the course of the fixture.
I do certainly agree that all four have been exciting additions to the squad this season, however, I would list off different players as our top four. ‘KDH’, Mavididi, McAteer, and Winks would be my top choices, and Ricardo Pereira plus Mads Hermansen would be my next additions to that lineup.
