Report: Tottenham player set to be sidelined for eight weeks with injury out on loan

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Djed Spence looks likely to miss up to eight weeks of action for Leeds United, after picking up a knee injury in training recently.

The young defender was pursued by Tottenham throughout the entirety of last summer and finally made the switch to North London in a £19m move from Middlesborough (ESPN).

However, Djed Spence was unable to replicate the form he showed at Nottingham Forest in the previous season. That is largely because he was limited to just six first-team appearances for the Lilywhites, totaling only 41 minutes on the field (Transfermarkt).

Many suspected this was down to Antonio Conte‘s reluctance to use a player that he may not have exactly sanctioned the signing of. It was thought, then, that the arrival of Ange Postecoglou this summer could open the door for Spence to prove himself again.

It wasn’t to be, however, and Spence was shipped out on loan to Leeds United for the duration of the 2023/24 campaign.

Djed Spence suffers eight-week injury blow

Life at Leeds United isn’t quite going to plan for Spence, either, it seems. With just one brief substitute appearance to his name so far, the 23-year-old is now facing eight weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report Spence has suffered knee ligament damage, but will not need any surgery. The wing-back picked up a knock in training last week and a scan has revealed the extent of the problem.

The injury, reported as lateral collateral ligament damage, is expected to keep Spence out of action “until the middle of November.” He will now miss key games for Leeds against the likes of Leicester City, Southampton, and Norwich City.

Spurs Web Opinion

Djed Spence just cannot catch a break. I was hoping his time with Leeds could see him revitalized somewhat and hopefully work his way back into the setup at Spurs for the future, but this is another setback that will be hard to come back from.
