Boly, Aurier, Danilo – Nottingham Forest injury state of play ahead of Man City clash

Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s Reds claim point in 1-1 draw with Clarets at the City Ground

Nottingham Forest returned to action after the international break with a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley on Monday night.

Callum Hudson-Odoi netted a brilliant equalizer to secure a point for the Reds at the City Ground. It was the former Chelsea winger’s debut in the Garibaldi as Steve Cooper made four changes to his side – some of which were enforced.

The Forest head coach has a few tough selection decisions to make for Saturday’s trip to face Manchester City, and it also remains to be seen whether some players who were absent against the Clarets are available again. We take a look at the injury situation as it stands.

What we know: The centre-back had started the season in fine form, being in the XI for the Reds’ opening four games. However, he wasn’t in the match squad on Monday due to suffering from illness.

What has been said: “He did train the first day back after the international break, and then he got a sickness illness which wiped him out for a few days, Cooper explained post-match. “He was here and he’s feeling better. He will train when we next train. It was unfortunate, really, because he’s been playing really well for us.”

Danilo

Injury: Suspected hamstring.

What we know: The Brazilian had been due to feature against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, but a late change was made as he suffered a hamstring problem. He underwent a scan prior to the clash with Chelsea and had been a doubt for the trip.

The midfielder got the go-ahead to make the starting XI at Stamford Bridge but lasted little more than 45 minutes. He pulled up towards the end of the first half and came off after receiving treatment on the pitch. He went on to withdraw from the Brazil Under-23 squad and was not involved on Monday night.

What has been said: “Danilo picked up an injury at Chelsea, which he is still suffering with,” Cooper said in his pre-match press conference. “It’s a little bit inconclusive on how long he’ll be out for, but he isn’t training at the moment.

Serge Aurier

Injury: Unknown.

What we know: The full-back looked a little uncomfortable when he came off with 20 minutes to go in the capital. He was ruled out against the Clarets.

What has been said: Cooper said Aurier had been “unavailable” at the City Ground. Prior to the game he had said: “Serge walked off at Stamford Bridge too, so some players are being managed through injuries. Hopefully we get them back as soon as possible.

“We’re not sure (if they will be ready for Monday’s game) as there’s still a few days to go until we play. We can’t really rule anyone in or out, so we will see.”

Felipe

Injury: Knee.

What we know: A knee issue prevented the defender from being involved in any of the Reds’ pre-season games and he barely trained during the summer. He is yet to get on the pitch for the first-team this season but was on the bench against the Clarets and at Stamford Bridge. He then played an hour for the Under-21s against Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy but was not among the substitutes on Monday.

What has been said: “He’s had an injury which does need a bit of managing – and he’s not in the early part of his career,” Cooper said last week. “It’s great to have him back. You saw what he gave us last year and the type of character and player he is.

“It’s good to have him back in. He has trained through the international break and is back in the mix.”

Last month, Felipe said via a translator: “It was a variety of different things, different niggles. A fibrosis in the kneecap was diagnosed, and that was holding me back. But that is all recovered and resolved now.

“I had it last season. It was the same thing, it was a bit more intense. I would manage it with medication and treatment.

“I made lots of sacrifices to make it on to the pitch, so when it came to the end of the season it was quite delicate. The decision was made to have this rest and recovery period so I will have no more problems in the future.”
