Tottenham’s oldest supporter dies at the age of 106 after following the club for 94 years.
Tottenham’s oldest season ticket holder died at the age of 106 after seeing her favorite lads in white for 94 years.
Irene McBride saw it all with Spurs, from the golden days of the 1960s through Jose Mourinho’s turbulent tenure.
She began watching Tottenham games when she was 12 years old. Irene got an appointment with Harry Kane on her 101st birthday, nine decades later.
Jimmy Greaves, though, had long been her favorite player.
Irene saw Spurs win six FA Cups, two UEFA Cups, two league crowns, and one European Cup Winners Cup during her time with the club.
‘We are devastated to learn of the demise of Irene McBride, our oldest Season Ticket Holder until recently,’ said a Tottenham Hotspur official.
‘Irene was a beloved part of the Spurs family who will live on in our hearts,’ said the team.
Irene would accompany her grandson Julian Stringle to home games at White Hart Lane and the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
‘She’s been going since 1927,’ he remarked of his grandmother.
‘She was 12 years old when she first went. She recalls coming along the High Road and seeing everyone else wearing flat hats.’
Irene has joked about what originally drew her to Spurs games.
In an interview, she commented, “I liked watching them kick the ball around and knock each other over.”
She recalled the moment Spurs won the league and FA Cup in 1961, saying, ‘We all became delighted and embraced one another.’
