Leicester City players and fans are being warned by Enzo Maresca.
Maresca is wary of getting carried away with the Fox’s great start.
Enzo Maresca, manager of Leicester City, says it is too early to get carried away with their place in the Championship standings.
The Foxes presently lead the second-tier rankings, having won seven of their eight league games this season.
However, Maresca was quick to point out that it is still early days, following an incident at The King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It is too soon for Leicester City players and fans to get carried away with their team’s position in the Championship standings.
According to Enzo Maresca, manager of the Foxes, there is still a long way to go before anything is settled this season.
How is Leicester faring in the Championship this season?
Leicester have adapted well to life in the English second division following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship at the end of last season.
Maresca resigned his position as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City in the summer to take over at The King Power Stadium.
He has now overseen an extremely productive start to the season, with the Foxes having won seven and lost one of their eight league games so far this season, after a 1-0 triumph against Bristol City at home on Saturday afternoon.
That puts them at the top of the Championship table, despite being one of the favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League at the start of the season.
Despite this, it appears that Maresca does not want anyone linked with the club to get too far ahead of themselves when it comes to thinking about a return to the Premier League.
What has Maresca stated regarding Leicester’s current Championship standing?
While he will undoubtedly be happy with how his new team has begun the season, it appears Maresca is trying to avoid complacency just now.
That comes after he stated on Saturday that he had to ask for directions twice at The King Power Stadium, emphasizing how early in his tenure with the club, and hence the campaign, it is.
Maresca was reported by BBC Sport as remarking of Leicester’s excellent position in the table and the need of not getting carried away with it: “I tell you why, because from the changing room to where we have lunch is on the other side and I needed to ask two people to arrive there.”
“I believe this makes it pretty clear. It’s early days since even I can’t find my way from the dressing room to the restaurant.
“To be honest, I am looking at the results and looking at the table, but at the end I know it is very early.”
Leicester will play Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night at Anfield.
They will next return their attention to the Championship, with a trip to Ewood Park to play Blackburn Rovers in front of Sky Sports cameras on Sunday afternoon.
Is this the message Maresca wants to send to Leicester?
With Leicester’s present circumstances, this seems like a pretty smart tactic for Maresca to follow.
You can’t blame anyone around the club for relishing their present position and great start to the season, especially considering the agony they through for most of the previous year.
However, they have only played eight of the season’s 46 league games, so there is still plenty of time for things to alter for rivals to turn the situation around.
As a result, Leicester cannot afford to get complacent and hand a chance to others, which Maresca appears to be warning against with his words here.
