The 36-year-old admits to having ‘desires for other things
Spurs’ goalkeeper is still under contract.
Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has revealed that he has “desires for other things” and is considering a life apart from the club at the “end of an era.”
The 36-year-old resigned from international duty with France in January, a year after agreeing a contract extension with Spurs that would keep him at the club until the end of next season. However, there has been conjecture that the goalie may have already played his final game for the club he joined in 2012 after suffering a season-ending thigh injury against Newcastle in April.
“We are approaching an important moment, whether for the club or for me,” Lloris told the French publication Nice-Matin. The end of an era has arrived. I have other ambitions, therefore I will quietly ask myself to research what is feasible.
“But I don’t forget that I still have a year left on my contract with Tottenham and that it’s always difficult to predict what will happen in football.” What is most important right now is that I heal fully from my injuries. I’m on vacation, but I’m still talking and training. My aim is to win the championship in July, and then we’ll see what the future holds.”
Lloris admitted Spurs, who finished seventh this season after winning a Champions League berth the previous season, had failed to live up to expectations and blamed injuries.
“We failed as a team by not being able to reverse the course of events,” he remarked. It’s frustrating, but such is the life of a top-flight football team. The most important thing is to prepare for next season as thoroughly as possible and to learn from our errors.”
The Frenchman would not rule out a return to Nice, where he began his professional career before going on to Lyon and then north London, but he was certain that he would not force his present club to transfer.
