Ugo Ehiogu taken to hospital after collapsing at Tottenham training ground

The Tottenham Hotspur Under-23s coach, Ugo Ehiogu, was taken to hospital on Thursday morning after the former England defender collapsed at the training ground with a suspected heart attack.

An ambulance and a medical assistance car were scrambled to the club’s Enfield headquarters at 11.30am to administer emergency care before the 44-year-old former England defender was taken to hospital for further treatment.

There were panicked scenes as the ambulance sped in, with blue lights flashing, and the level of concern across the faces of staff was plain. The manager, Mauricio Pochettino, the assistant manager, Jesús Pérez, and the club’s head of development, John McDermott, walked over to the pitch where Ehiogu had fallen to make their own checks on the situation.

Tottenham said in a statement: “We can confirm that Ugo Ehiogu is currently in hospital after collapsing at our training centre earlier today. Our under-23s coach received immediate treatment on site from our medical staff before being transferred to hospital by ambulance. Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Ugo and his family.”

Tottenhman manager Ange postecoglou has confirmed Brennan Johsnon will miss the game against Liverpool today but assured the injury wasnt anything major.

Johsnon signed from Nottingham Forest in the summer has only started one one game and that was the one against Arsenal last weekend.

He’s impressed with hi speed and attitute since making the move to Seven Sisters but the last injury means he will now have to focus pon getting back to full fitness before his journey to claiming a starting slot in an attcak that has the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison continues.

Ange Postecoglou whose helped the club to their best start to the top-f;ight campiagn in almost 50 years confirmed his newsigning would be absent even though it wasn’t anythiing long-term.

He told reporters: “From last week, Brennan will miss out – it’s nothing too serious but he won’t be right for this week. Madders and Sonny trained today, just finished the session and seemed to get through it not too bad.

“We’ll just have to see how they pull up as it’s fair to say they were a bit sore after last week and had a bit of an interrupted week training so just a matter of seeing how they pull up.”

Tottenham’s 4-1 win at Wembley in October 2017 is their only triumph in the 23 most recent meetings in all competitions and Ange Postecoglou woild have instantly done more than all his last four predecessor if he could master a win at home against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
