Former Wigan player dies in accident

It is with regret that the Wigan Warriors have today learned of the sad death of former player David Myers in a car accident.

Myers played for the Club between 1990 and 1992 where he made 69 appearances for the team scoring 38 tries. The winger will be remembered particularly for the 1991 Challenge Cup Final where he scored a vital try at Wembley to help Wigan defeat St Helens, 13-8. David also played for Bradford, Salford and Widnes.

Speaking about the tragic news, Performance Director Joe Lydon said,

‘We’re buzzing’ Sam Luckley makes Hull KR form admission as Robins gear up for Wigan

He’s not known as an all-action star but Hull KR prop Sam Luckley is loving life ripping things up for the Robins. The popular Geordie scored a crucial try in Friday’s 20-6 play-off win against Leigh Leopards to set up a Super League semi-final at Wigan on Saturday.

It was just the sixth try in the ex-Salford front-row’s entire six-year professional career. Luckley’s only other effort for KR came in a Challenge Cup tie against part-timers Batley in May. But he also made one stunning 40m midfield break and was a handful every time he carried the ball.

Luckley, who joined from Salford in the off-season, has thrived and admitted: ”I do think I’m doing really well form-wise. Making line breaks and scoring tries isn’t really my game normally. But I just focus on running hard, tackling hard for the boys. I’ve got a bit of an offload as well. Willie (Peters) and all the coaches have just helped me along and we’re buzzing after that win.”

The victory saw Rovers exact revenge on the side who defeated them by the narrowest of margins in August’s Challenge Cup final. But Luckley insists revenge wasn’t uppermost in their minds.

He said: “It was more the media talking about revenge for Wembley. We weren’t really thinking about it in terms of that. It’s the fifth time we’ve played Leigh this season but this was knockout rugby and we knew we had to put a performance together.
