Gamecock receiver joining the transfer portal parade

Many South Carolina football players have chosen to enter their names in the transfer portal. Linebacker/EDGE QBs Tanner Bailey and Colten Gauthier came next, with Donovan Westmoreland revealing his identity first.

With the revelation of a few more transfer names on Thursday, the situation intensified.

The transfer of Juice Wells was announced in the morning. His social media activity suggests that NIL is a significant factor. The former all-SEC wideout will be transferring as a graduate student after sitting out the majority of the 2023 campaign.

Then, at midday, it was also reported that record-breaking kicker Mitch Jeter had entered the transfer portal. There will also be a graduate transfer who holds the record for the highest field goal percentage in program history.

Thanks to a report by Mike Uva of GamecockCentral, the transfer portal conversation gained another dimension early in the afternoon. Wide receiver Landon Samson will be leaving the South Carolina football program, according to Uva, who also revealed the Mitch Jeter news earlier in the day.

Samson, an All-American in high school, has not

Samson joins Juice Wells as receivers who have decided to leave the program through the transfer portal. They are the 5th and 6th receivers so far who have left the program this offseason, as Xavier Legette, Eddie Lewis, Ahmarean Brown, and Ben Rollins all graduated. Rollins, a walk-on, could return but walked on Senior Night last weekend against Clemson.

On the other side of the portal, the Gamecocks have dispensed a handful of offers to graduate transfer players (graduate students can enter the portal and transfer at any time). Once the portal opens next week, underclassmen can officially enter the portal and announce their transfer destinations.
