Brandon Miller is one of the top NBA Draft prospects in the Class of 2023. Victor Wembanyma is a lock to be the first name called on Thursday night, but Miller could very well end up being the No. 2 overall pick.

While the Alabama product possesses incredible talent and potential as a basketball player, there are concerns away from the court. Miller was connected to the January shooting death of Jamea Harris, though he was never charged with a crime.

Here is what we know about the shooting and how Miller and the Crimson Tide program addressed it.

Jan. 15: Alabama basketball player charged with capital murder, dismissed from team

Former Alabama player Darius Miles, 21, and Maryland native Michael Lynn Davis, 20, were charged with capital murder in the shooting of Harris, a 23-year-old woman from Birmingham, Ala. The shooting occurred on the Tuscaloosa strip near Alabama’s campus.

Tuscaloosa police Capt. Jack Kennedy said the driver of the vehicle in which Harris was a passenger claimed someone had shot into his vehicle. (The driver was later identified as Harris’ boyfriend, Cedric Johnson.) He added that he returned fire in self-defense and hit one of the suspects. Harris was found dead inside the vehicle.

“It appears at this time that the shooting was the result of a minor argument that occurred between the victims and suspects after they encountered each other along the strip,” Kennedy said at a press conference.
