The Bombers have placed star receiver Kenny Lawler on the suspended list for three to four weeks.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have placed star receiver and prize free agent Kenny Lawler on the suspended list, and he may be unavailable to play for the next three to four weeks.

The incident is thought to stem from a 2021 drunk driving arrest in Winnipeg.

There have been no further incidents, and the Bombers insisted that this was more of a paper transaction than a punitive suspension.

Lawler played for the Bombers in 2019 and 2021 before signing a free agent contract with the Edmonton Elks in 2022. The American returned to Winnipeg as a free agent this past off-season and is expected to do big things with quarterback Zach Collaros.

The Bombers will play their final preseason game on Friday night at IG Field against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Lawler was not expected to play in that game, as the team is resting many of its projected starters.

It now appears that he will miss next Friday’s season and home opener against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, as well as the season’s first road game on June 16 in Regina.

The Bombers’ third game of the season will be played on June 22, which falls within that three to four week window.

With Lawler out for a few weeks, receiver Carlton Agudosi should have an opportunity to make an impact on the team. Agudosi was playing wide receiver for Lawler during Thursday’s walkthrough, and he could join a strong receiving corps that already includes Dalton Schoen, Nic Demski, Rasheed Bailey, and Drew Wolitarsky.
