Texas A&M To Hire Trev Alberts As University’s New Athletic Director

Trev Alberts, an All-American football player from the University of Nebraska who has worked as an AD for the previous 15 years at Nebraska, has been appointed as the new director of athletics at Texas A&M by president Mark A. Welsh III.

Alberts, an ESPN announcer and former first-round NFL draft selection, has been the University of Nebraska’s director of athletics since 2021. After twelve years as the athletic director at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he oversaw the renovation of the school’s athletic facilities and helped transfer the athletic department from Division II to Division 1, he relocated to Lincoln.

Welsh stated that Alberts is the best person to manage A&M Athletics, which has approximately 650 student-athletes who compete in 20 varsity sports in the Southeastern Conference, because of his excellent financial acumen, breadth of expertise, and leadership qualities.

Welsh stated, “With Trev’s experience, the Aggies are ready to succeed not just on the fields, tracks, and courts, but also in the complex nexus of sports, business, and student-athlete empowerment.” “He is extremely knowledgeable about the complex business of sports and the changing face of collegiate athletics, especially with regard to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).”

“I can’t think of a better person to lead the Aggie Athletics program into the future,” Welsh continued.

After being appointed as Texas A&M’s athletic director in 2019, Ross Bjork declared in January that he would be taking up the same position at Ohio State University. In less than a week, Welsh sent six additional committee members and former student David “Dave” Dunlap, who chaired the 12th Man Foundation Board of Trustees, to lead a nationwide search for the next director of athletics.

Alberts expressed his gratitude to President Welsh and the committee on Wednesday afternoon, stating that he was looking forward to working with student-athletes and the 12th Man.
