Brian Kelly reveals where LSU football will attack transfer portal after spring practice
ROUGE, BATON — After 14 spring football practices, Brian Kelly already knows exactly how LSU football will handle the transfer portal when it formally launches the following week.
Before LSU began spring practice, the coaching staff and media felt that the defensive line, which had seen multiple players depart for the 2024 NFL Draft and come in since the end of the previous campaign, could use some much-needed aid and depth.
Furthermore, what he’s witnessed so far this spring provides additional evidence that the Tigers’ position on the inside of the defensive line isn’t where it needs to be.
After the team’s 14th spring practice on Thursday, Kelly informed the media, “I don’t see any other positions that we need to be in the transfer portal other than the defensive tackle position.”

LSU’s defensive tackle depth has been so low that offensive lineman Kimo Makane’ole was shifted to defensive tackle by the coaching staff in order to give the team enough players to last through 15 practices. Additionally, Makane’ole has been practicing with the starting defensive line.
That’s not to say that there hasn’t been standouts on the interior of the defensive line this spring. Senior Jacobian Guillory has had a stellar spring and appears primed for a solid 2024 season.
But behind Guillory, there are still plenty of questions from Kelly, new defensive coordinator Blake Baker and new defensive line coach Bo Davis that has them locked in on the position when the porta opens next week.
