Stuart Webber is open to the idea of joining Leeds United as the Whites consider the Norwich City man for the vacant director of football role at Elland Road.
That is according to I News, which takes a deep dive into the issues Leeds must now address following their relegation to the Championship at the weekend. And there are certainly plenty of issues.
Leeds’ lack of fight on the final day was a fitting way to say goodbye to the Premier League. The feeling of worry is not quite as great as 2004. But plenty of fans feel that there are few guarantees about the Whites making a swift return either.
Webber open to Leeds move
There is a lot that is up in the air right now. And one of the issues someone is going to have to address is who replaces Victor Orta as director of football.
I News is reporting that boyhood Leeds fan Stuart Webber is a contender for the post. And he is open to the idea of leaving Norwich for the Whites.
Appointing Webber would probably attract a mixed reaction from supporters. Some will certainly appreciate that he is a fan of the club. And one thing you certainly cannot question him on is his honesty.
But Victor Orta was definitely an honest character. And his passion was evident to see – even if he often showed it in completely the wrong way.
So ticking those boxes should only get Webber so far. He has overseen promotion with Norwich City. But the Canaries have also been one of the most disappointing sides the Premier League has seen over the last decade.
Perhaps Webber would find it easier working with the budgets at Leeds. But it does feel as though it would be a gamble to bring him in as Orta’s replacement at a time when Leeds need to arguably keep one eye on beyond what is going to get them out of the Championship.
