Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce make enquiry for out-of-favour Newcastle United playerMourinho took charge of the Turkish Super Lig club this summer, having been unemployed since leaving Roma in January.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur boss has already been extremely busy in the transfer market.

Fenerbahce have brought in former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin and ex-Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan.

Meanwhile, their two most expensive signings to date are Youssef En-Nesyri (£16.5 million) and Caglar Soyuncu (£7m) from Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

It appears that Mourinho is still not totally happy with his squad as the Super Lig leaders are looking to make at least one more acquisition.

Fenerbahce are one of three Turkish clubs who have enquired about signing Kieran Trippier on a loan with an option to buy.

According to Sky Sports, Besiktas, Eyupspor and Mourinho’s side are all interested in giving Trippier a way out of St. James’ Park.

The former England international has been a key player under Eddie Howe since signing from Atletico Madrid but that may no longer be the case.

Tino Livramento was initially signed from Southampton to be his understudy but it appears that he has now overtaken Tripper in the pecking order.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has started all three Premier League games for Newcastle at the start of the 2024/25 season.

Trippier is said to be desperate to play regular first-team football and, while he has not asked to leave, a move to a new club seems likely.

The Super Lig transfer window is open for another 10 days so there is plenty of time for Fenerbahce, or their rivals, to complete a deal.

Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad wanted to sign Trippier a few weeks ago but that is no longer an option as their window has closed.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich, then coached by Thomas Tuchel, made an effort to bring him to the Allianz Arena back in January.

Howe’s side even turned down a £15m offer for the right-back – a fee they would surely find impossible to receive now.

Since joining the Magpies in 2021, the 46-year-old has vastly improved the club’s fortunes, guiding them to a top-four finish in the 2022/23 season.

His stellar record in the North-East hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans and media alike, with many regarding Howe as the natural successor to Gareth Southgate, who stood down as England manager earlier this summer.

While some Sporting Directors would baulk at the prospect of their club’s manager being interviewed for the vacant England role, Newcastle United’s Paul Mitchell seemingly isn’t one of them.

Mitchell, who became Newcastle’s new Sporting Director in early July, recently discussed Howe’s future in an interview with the Evening Standard.

He explained: “I’ve never been scared of interest in any of our staff members, especially our head coach, and especially from a level of organisation that the FA is.

“We want Eddie Howe as our head coach for as long as we can. But we recognise that we are on a journey, and we recognise his quality and his potential as well. I think it’s recognition of the two-and-a-half years he’s had here, and the job he did at Bournemouth.”

“He is a senior member of our team and I want Eddie to be able to feel like he’s doing the best job he possibly can,” added Mitchell.

The former Monaco Sporting Director also emphasised the importance of forging a close relationship with Howe, who he remains in daily communication with.
