Tottenham could finally end their drawn-out manager search by luring Ange Postecoglou away from Celtic.

Tottenham managerial target Ange Postecoglou could give one of the club’s forgotten players a new lease of life. Tanguy Ndombele’s Spurs career looked dead and buried when was sent to Lyon on loan last season, but the silky midfielder reportedly wants to give things another go in north London.
Ndombele remains Tottenham’s record signing, arriving in a high-profile £63million deal four years ago. The French international showed what he was capable of in flashes, with former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho explaining back in 2021: “The talent is amazing.

“You know I think by the talent point of view, by the creation in midfield, by the vision, he is second to nobody at this moment in European football.” However, there remained an inconsistency to his game, and the arrival of Antonio Conte saw him tumble down the pecking order.

Spending some of last campaign at Lyon and all of this term with Serie A winners Napoli, Ndombele has rediscovered his confidence. Footmercato claim that the 26-year-old now wants to revive his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the Azzurri opting against making his loan move permanent.

And the timing could hardly be better, with Conte sacked and Spurs seemingly on the verge of prising Postecoglou away from Celtic.

The Greek-born boss has shot to the top of chairman Daniel Levy’s wish list, and reports indicate that he could be unveiled in north London as early as next week, with a fresh round of talks set for after Celtic’s forthcoming Scottish Cup final.

Beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Hampden Park would see Postecoglou become just the fifth manager in Hoops history to win a domestic treble. And his exciting, possession-based playing style could go down a storm with Spurs fans.

It is also sure to sit well with some of Tottenham’s players, and Ndombele is among those set to benefit from a fresh start and a new approach on the pitch. Celtic tend to line up in a 4-3-3 under Postecoglou, and Ndombele has shown an ability to feature in a variety of midfield roles.

His flair and physicality in the middle of the park could provide Spurs with a crucial new ingredient next season, with significant changes needed from their hugely disappointing 2022/23 campaign, which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League.

Although there is a feeling that Postecoglou to Spurs rumours could ramp up after Saturday’s final, the Celtic boss remained diplomatic when quizzed on the speculation this week. “Somebody else was favourite last week, weren’t they? So no, it doesn’t register,” he said.

“I get all the interest and why people love to speculate on these things. But we’ve worked really really hard to get ourselves in this position and for me to let my mind wander about anything else other than getting our team prepared for a big day on Saturday, it’s just not who I am.”
