The trip to Elland Road will set fans back up to £47 per adult, and the Terriers faithful have sent messages to both the EFL and to owner Kevin Nagle over the issue

Terriers fans have been left gobsmacked after being told they will be charged up to £47 per adult by Leeds United to watch their side when they visit Elland Road this season.

Huddersfield Town are scheduled to make the trip to their local rivals on Saturday, October 28 in a 12:30pm kick-off, but a price list that circulated around social media left more than a few supporters appalled.

The fan-run Huddersfield Town Family account highlighted Leeds’ prices and asked the EFL to respond, tweeting: “Dear @EFL_Comms, how can it possibly be right that a Premier League away game is capped at £30, (which is still too much in my view), yet teams can be allowed to charge fans £47 for a ticket to watch a second-tier game of football in a cost of living crisis?”

They clarified that Leeds being a local rival did not influence their complaint, saying: “It’s just wrong. It’s not an attack on a certain club, it’s an attack on the scandalous prices of tickets for hard-working fans to watch their team.

“Gutted but with a family to support, it’s just hard to justify so will have to pick and choose the away days.”

Matthew Denman wrote: “So my season ticket at Huddersfield is £159 so it’s basically a third of me season ticket to watch them away at Leeds”

Ginger Ogre’s approach is the right one in our view: “Loads of fans of other clubs in the Championship will moan a lot about this, and then stump up £47 to go. Only way to stop it, is to not go.”

Huddersfield Town reap rewards of pricing policy

Town fan Ryan pointed out that newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday are charging similar amounts for their away tickets, writing: “Not sure who Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United think they are charging near 50 pound for an away ticket this season. The EFL should have a cap on tickets but oh no it’s too much effort for them as usual!”

Another Town fan, JJK, took a different tack for their own entreaty, tagging Terriers owner Kevin Nagle to say: “Make sure we’re charging Leeds and Sheff Wednesday same price for tickets when they come to Huddersfield.”

Fellow Terrier Neil Waine added: “No way I’ll be at Hillsborough or Leeds at those prices.”
