Welsh international Ampadu, 22, is the Whites’ only signing of the summer so far but caught the eye on his debut in Saturday’s friendly against AS Monaco

New Leeds United boss Daniel Farke says he is looking forward to seeing Ethan Ampadu realise his potential at the club.

The Welsh international made just a handful of appearances for Chelsea and was loaned out numerous times in his six years at Stamford Bridge. He became the first signing of the Farke era last week for a reported £7million fee, signing a four-year deal at Elland Road.

He made his debut on Saturday, catching the eye in midfield albeit as the team lost 2-0 in a warm-up game against French side AS Monaco.

Speaking post-match about the 22-year-old, Farke said: “I’m pretty pleased with the signing of Ethan Ampadu.

“I think today he has showed some glimpses and in the many periods why wanted him so much. He’s a young player with much potential, also more to come, but already an experienced player so he was quite crucial in the first half.”

Ampadu will be hoping to feature again when Leeds take on Nottingham Forest in midweek. Farke is hoping to have more new faces in position for when the Championship gets underway, with the first game a tasty-looking home clash against Cardiff.

He added: “There will be (more) business to be done. We need definitely some additions, some new signings, I expect also there will be also some outgoings.

“We want to make sure that when hopefully September arrives as quick as possible that we have a really, really strong squad together.”
