Dwight Gayle has told goalkeeper Karl Darlow ‘good luck bro’ after he secured a transfer from Newcastle United to Leeds United on Saturday.
The 32-year-old, who was on loan at Hull City last season, has become Daniel Farke’s second signing of the summer after the capture of Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.
Last season, Leeds United produced a horror show at the back and their goalkeeper – Illan Meslier – played a part in those nightmare moments, so it’s no surprise that a number one has been brought in ahead of their return to the Championship.
When the news was confirmed, Karl Darlow took to Instagram to thank the Newcastle United faithful for their support ahead of his new chapter at Elland Road.
In the comments section of the Englishman’s post, Stoke City striker Dwight Gayle wrote: ‘Good luck, bro’ – the duo played together at St James’ Park.
Whilst ex-Liverpool man, Loris Karius, who is a back-up keeper under Eddie Howe, added ‘All the best’, as midfielder Isaac Hayden also sent his best wishes.
Leeds United’s issues at the back
Error-prone, lacking in confidence, untrustworthy, weak and in need of serious repair. Leeds’ backline, including the goalkeeper, was all over the shop last season.
In the end, it could be argued that’s what sent them down, in fact, it was the biggest reason why they went down.
Therefore, with Darlow now set to take the hot seat at Elland Road, there is going to be big, big pressure on his shoulders because those in front of him aren’t exactly blessed with top form.
