Leeds United are reportedly keeping tabs on Young Boys centre-back Aurele Amenda this summer, with Gretar Steinsson “checking” on the defender.

Leeds are in the market for recruitments on a number of fronts this summer, with Daniel Farke tasked to lead the rebuild following relegation.

Helping him along the way is recent appointment as technical director, Gretar Steinsson, with Mail Plus reporting this week that Steinsson has been checking on Young Boys centre-back Aurele Amenda.

The teenager has impressed recently, starting regularly in the second half of the season as his club side won the Swiss Super League title and Swiss Cup.

Here, we look at two qualities that we think Amenda could bring to the side if he joined this summer…

Quality in possession

Farke requires his defenders to be able to play out to some degree, and we’ve seen that implemented already in our pre-season friendlies.

There have been some teething issues, which is to be expected, during these July fixtures, but there have been some far more comfortable than others.

With Amenda, Leeds would be investing in someone very accomplished on the ball despite his age and relative lack of experience.

Someone with that quality on the right side is needed, given concerns over whether Charlie Cresswell can be that man.

Immense physical prowess

Standing at just shy of 6ft4in, it’s no shock to see him take to the senior game as a teenager with such regularity already.

The Swiss League, and Young Boys in particular, have never been shy of handing out appearances to players that are ready for that challenge, and Amenda looks to be.

A powerful centre-back, as well as technically proficient, Amenda would add some much-needed height to Leeds’ side, as well as brilliant recovery pace.

Playing with Farke’s high line, Leeds need centre-backs capable of dropping quickly and making up ground on the break, which Amenda looks very good at.
