Leeds United have secured the signing of Swansea City striker Joel Piroe this week, aiming to rectify a long-term issue in the striker department at Elland Road.

Leeds’ transfer business thus far has been solid in terms of the players they have been able to bring in under Daniel Farke, but there is an issue with quantity.

More are needed as soon as possible, especially in attack with no real striker options presenting themselves at the moment.

However, that is soon to change with the confirmation that Joel Piroe has signed for the club from Swansea City for an initial £10.5million fee.

Here, we look at two qualities that the 24-year-old will bring to Elland Road after he joined…

Immense ball-striking

On face value, it seems like a strength that every footballer should have to be able to strike the ball cleanly from any angle, but Leeds have lacked that up front.

Piroe, however, has scored a whole manner of goals for Swansea on either foot, from a variety of distances.

He has been ruthless in front of goal for the Swans since he joined, and has the ability to score from virtually anywhere within 30 yards of goal.

When Leeds are faced with low blocks and need a moment from nothing, players like Piroe provide.

The intelligence of where to be

Piroe often switches between playing as an out-and-out striker and being more of a deeper-lying forward, able to link up very well.

With Leeds’ other attacking options, that looks like a brilliant match for what we need in attack with the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, and Dan James all capable of shifting beyond the striker and run in behind.

Such movement brings the midfield into play when we’re in build-up and transition too, allowing for so much more variety in how we play.

It’s also why he scores goals from all over, because he can get in behind (albeit lacking pace), but he can also find space on the edge of the box.
