Dinamo Zagreb want to sign Rangers defender Borna Barisic before Friday transfer deadline
Dinamo Zagreb want to sign Rangers left-back Borna Barisic before the transfer deadline on Friday, but a deal is “almost impossible,” according to Germanijak.
The Croatian news organization writes on their website (6 September) that the Gers left-back is desired because his current Ibrox contract is set to expire next summer.
However, while a deal before this week’s deadline is highly doubtful, they are planning an attempt in January, when he would be free to speak to clubs unless he signs a new contract between now and then, and negotiations are already underway.
“Now a new name has come out, Dinamo wants Borna Barisic,” they added.
“The Croatian representative has entered the final year of his contract with Glasgow Rangers, and the Scottish media has speculated in recent days that he could sign a new one, but, of course, Barisic is in a position where he can choose what he will do.”
“They smelled an opportunity in Maksimir, Barisic was mentioned shyly in some previous transfer deadlines, but as we know, it is difficult, almost impossible, for them to complete the transfer by Friday and the end of the summer market.”
“They have taken action, some contacts already exist, but at this point it is more likely that Borna Barisic’s return will be worked on during the fall.”
It’s time to make a shift.
Barisic has not been judged good enough by the supporters for nearly two seasons, yet he appears to be first-choice under Michael Beale.
With the exception of the occasional good delivery with his left foot, he tends to create more problems for us than solve them, and defensively, he simply isn’t god enough to be at the level we require.
Ridvan is already at the club and was expected to be the successor, but injuries have injured him badly so far at Ibrox, so a fresh option may need to be brought in to be more reliable, but it’s evident that Barisic must be moved on.
His contract is about to expire, so now is the time to do it, but if the club does renew his contract, we’ll be able to obtain some money for him instead of losing him for nothing.
If this interest is genuine, Rangers should seriously examine it in January, not before, since we cannot afford to be short after our poor start.
