While new Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou observes his senior squad’s genuinely excellent start to the new Premier League season, there is a crop of very interesting kids sharpening their skills in the background.

Indeed, striker Dane Scarlett, who was recently compared to Manchester United star Marcus Rashford by ex-Lilywhites head coach Jose Mourinho, is one of the most exciting future stars to emerge in recent years.

“He is a diamond, a kid with incredible potential,” Mourinho said in 2021 to BT Sport (via talkSPORT).

“He has worked extensively with the first team, which has given him a distinct personality.” He is still 16, 17 soon [in March], and I feel he will be a first-team squad player next season due to his skill.

“He’s going to be a fantastic player, and I hope everything goes well for him.” He’s a striker, a number nine, and I’ve been playing him from the flanks like Marcus Rashford. He’s really clever.”

Scarlett is presently on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship, and it will be intriguing to watch how he does in such a competitive league.

Meanwhile, promising striker Troy Parrott, long billed as Harry Kane’s heir apparent, is on loan at Eredivisie side Excelsior as the Republic of Ireland player attempts to kickstart his career.

The aforementioned two are just two examples of the brilliance that N17 can develop; midfielder Devine is another who has been earmarked for success.

How talented is Alfie Devine?

The 19-year-old, who is now on loan at League One side Port Vale, has previously been complimented by Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher.

Devine was given the opportunity to train with England’s senior team this week as they prepare for a UEFA Euro qualifying match against Ukraine on Saturday.

As a result of this news, elements of the media, including football.london journalist Alasdair Gold, hailed the adolescent potential.

“Big week for Alfie Devine,” Gold stated on X.

“First, that fantastic performance for Port Vale, with a goal and an assist, and now being drafted in from the England U20s to train with the senior side under Gareth Southgate’s watchful eye.”

Another reporter, Fretton, who works as an editorial content executive for LiveScore, added fuel to the flames by describing Devine as “huge” for the Spurs.

“I know he’s a long way off yet, but I’m so happy for Alfie Devine to be training with the senior England squad,” Fretton said on X.

“He has huge potential, and I can’t wait to see him get regular minutes for the Spurs, he’s an absolutely incredible talent!”

Following his time at Vale, Postecoglou appears to have a future prodigy on his hands when Devine returns to his original club.
