Junior Agogo, a former Bristol Rovers striker, died at the age of 40.
Between 2003 and 2006, the Ghanaian international appeared in 126 games for the Gas, scoring 41 goals.
One of Agogo’s most memorable Rovers performances occurred against Yeovil Town at the Memorial Stadium in October 2004.
The Gas trailed 2-0 and were reduced to nine men after Dave Savage and Steve Elliott were sent off.
But they battled back to earn a thrilling draw, due in large part to a brilliant effort from Agogo.
The Rovers striker set up James Hunt to make it 2-1 before scoring a stunning equalizer to earn his team a point.
Bristol Rover tweeted “RIP Junior Agogo,” describing him as a “Gas legend.”
The club has stated that they would pay tribute to the former player with a large screen tribute before their game against Oxford United on Saturday (24 August), as well as a minute’s applause before kick-off.
“Our thoughts are with Junior’s family and friends at this very difficult time,” wrote his old club Sheffield Wednesday in a tweet.
Agogo had a stroke in 2015 and struggled with his speech as a result.
