Everton have welcomed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman back to training ahead of next weekend’s Premier League encounter with Arsenal.

The England striker has been out injured since fracturing a cheekbone in a clash with Emi Martinez in the 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa, while Seamus Coleman has been rehabilitating from a knee injury sustained at the end of last season.

Both players have returned to training this week and have been sighted in photographs shared by the club on their official Twitter account (8 September).

Everton are significantly weaker in attack than they expected to be after losing Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray since the summer transfer market closed.

Because we don’t consider Neal Maupay’s term, Beto’s arrival during the summer means there is a logical replacement in the number nine position for the first time in a long time, but the return of Calvert-Lewin to fitness can only be a good thing.

He’s been the main guy in the striker position for years, and there aren’t many better strikers in the Premier League when he’s at his best and fittest.

Coleman’s leadership qualities at right-back have been missed by the club, but Nathan Patterson’s performances have been exceptional, and he has arguably solidified his status as first-choice.

However, competition for positions is always a good thing, and in the current situation, fresh faces are always likely to be a benefit, and with such a big game coming up, it’s excellent to have more quality choices.
