Newcastle United midfielder refuses to rule out a return to his previous club.
Sandro Tonali has revealed that he may return to AC Milan in the future.
Tonali, 23, became Newcastle United’s most expensive acquisition of the summer after agreeing to a £55 million contract with the Serie A giants (Sky Sports).
On Tyneside, he teamed up with Eddie Howe and became an instant favorite with the Toon Army after scoring a quick-fire goal against Aston Villa on the Premier League’s opening day.
Tonali has refused to rule out a return to the San Siro despite being one of the club’s most valuable and vital players.
Howe chose his new number eight for the Magpies’ first Champions League group game against AC Milan on Tuesday night. What had been an extremely emotional evening for Tonali turned out to be a dismal start to life in Europe for Newcastle.
The Magpies were held to a goalless draw, failing to build an early edge in a group that also included Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
Tonali, who played 72 minutes before being replaced by Elliot Anderson, spoke to the media after the game about what the future may hold for him.
“Would you ever return to AC Milan?” “I’m not sure,” the Italian said to Mediaset, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
“I’d pay to know what my future holds.” Perhaps, perhaps not. Football is an oddball sport. I’m not saying goodbye to AC Milan. I can’t and won’t hide my feelings for Milan.”
