Matheus Nunes delivers cryptic message to Wolves fans about the reason’ he joined Manchester City
Manchester City paid £53 million for Matheus Nunes on deadline day, after the Portugal international had boycotted training at Wolves to force a move.
In a mysterious farewell tweet to Wolves supporters, Matheus Nunes promises he will one day reveal the ‘ real reasons’ for his departure to Manchester City.
Nunes joins City on deadline day for £53 million after virtually going on strike at Molineux to demand a move. While City worked on a move, the Portugal international had halted training and would be absent for two games.
Nunes stated upon his arrival at City that he was given the opportunity to play at a ‘major club in England,’ while Wolves coach Gary O’Neil and Sporting Director Matt Hobbs both voiced unhappiness in Nunes’ handling of the trade.
Nunes sent a lengthy goodbye to Wolves on Instagram two days after his departure, claiming that ‘however inexplicable’ his decision may appear, he will explain his choices in the future so that ‘everyone without exception’ will understand him.
“The time has come to say goodbye to the club that has allowed me to play in the best League in the world and for whom I have always had deep admiration and respect,” Nunes wrote. Thank you to the Wolves, the staff, my teammates, and particularly the incredible fans for your unrelenting and heartfelt excitement and support.
“I really appreciate the meaning of the word commitment, and that was what was always present in my daily attitudes over the course of a year that will live on in my memory forever.” I could go on and on about the true reason for my leave and how it occurred, but all I’ll say is that the fans deserve all of my respect, affection, and profound appreciation.
“Everything happens for a reason, however incomprehensible it may appear at first glance, but I am confident that the future will clarify it, and at that time, everyone, without exception, will understand the reason for this last troubled week.” Thank you, Wolves fans; you will never be forgotten.”
In another post, Nunes expressed his gratitude to City supporters, saying, “I am delighted to be here and to be a part of this amazing club.” I will do all in my power to help us achieve our objectives and make you people appreciate my football. Thank you for the pleasant welcome!”
