Richarlison received an injury boost from Tottenham Hotspur before their match against Burnley.
Richarlison, a forward for Tottenham Hotspur, is expected to receive the all-clear for Saturday’s Premier League matchup against Burnley at Turf Moor.
In the second round of the EFL Cup last week against Fulham, the 26-year-old made his debut for the new season, but his efforts were in vain as Spurs were eliminated on penalties.
Richarlison, however, was unable to advance to the 12-yard line in the shootout because he had to be removed in the second half due to an apparent ankle injury.
The absence of the Brazil international this weekend would have left Spurs without a number nine option since both Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett departed the team on loans during the summer transfer window.
Although Richarlison should be granted the go-ahead to play, Brennan Johnson’s transfer from Nottingham Forest was not officially announced until 11 p.m. on deadline day, delaying the Welshman’s debut until after the international break.
As a result, the former Everton player will likely start at the front of the attack as he attempts to finally kick-start his Tottenham career after only scoring four goals in 39 games for the team thus far.
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, has claimed that despite Richarlison’s troubles in front of goal, he was not “unhappy” with the player prior to the South American opening his account for the season. Instead, Postecoglou is concentrating on how Richarlison can help the squad as a whole.
“I guess because everyone talks about it and I’m not in Richy’s head to really know how people feel, but I guess it stops people from talking about the fact that he didn’t score,” Postecoglou said to reporters at his pre-game press conference.
“I appreciated his contribution, he said. I remarked that although he may not have been at his best the other night compared to the other three games, people would likely only be paying attention to the goal if he scored it.
But I’m still considering Richy’s role on the squad and what he needs to do to help us continue to advance as a unit. However, he is not alone; everyone is in that boat.
But I understand that anything that gives a player confidence is wonderful, especially for strikers. Since it is plainly what people pay attention to. However, I wasn’t mad with Richy before he scored.
Richarlison is expected to be available, but Postecoglou revealed that Giovani Lo Celso, an Argentine midfielder, will be sidelined with a quadriceps injury, joining Spurs’ other four known absentees.
While Eric Dier is reportedly healing from a minor injury and is not anticipated to play, Bryan Gil (groin), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring), and Alfie Whiteman (ankle) are all recovering from procedures.
