Brennan Johnson’s first remarks after securing a move to Tottenham, as a massive Ange Postecoglou claim made headlines: Brennan Johnson lauded Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham’s new look in his first interview since coming from Nottingham Forest.
Brennan Johnson has detailed why he opted to join Tottenham in the summer transfer window, following his £47.5 million move from Nottingham Forest on deadline day. Wales international Ange Postecoglou has signed a six-year contract with the club, becoming Ange Postecoglou’s eighth summer signing.
Johnson was Postecoglou’s priority target, according to football.london, with Chelsea and Brentford also interested. Both London teams eventually chose different paths, with the Blues getting Cole Palmer from Manchester City and the Bees arranging a loan deal with Everton to see Neal Maupay seal a stunning return, allowing Spurs to sign the attacker.
Johnson, who started every game for Forest in the 2023/24 season, was instrumental in the club’s initial promotion to the Premier League and subsequent survival in the level four months ago. The 22-year-old scored eight goals in the 2022/23 season after assisting Steve Cooper’s side to promotion the previous season with 16 goals.
Johnson has earned his big move after two excellent seasons at the City Ground, with the man himself outlining why now was the appropriate time to join the team. “It’s a dream come true for me to play for a club of this stature,” he stated in his first interview since joining Tottenham. “The fans are incredible. The management has come in and backed them up, so I believe it was the best decision for me at this time.
“I was able to watch the games against Brentford and Bournemouth, and I thought the style of play was fantastic.” All of the guys have gotten behind it, and you can see them coming together, and it was just something I wanted to be a part of.
“I believe I am a player that attempts to thrill the crowd. I’m direct and quick. I try to get the ball as high as I can and score goals and assist, but at the end of the day, I simply want to work hard for the team.”
Johnson will miss Tottenham’s Premier League match against Burnley because the trade was completed after the registration deadline. Johnson will get some time with his new teammates during the international break, but he will be with Wales for their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
