Spurs midfielder got a ‘ very financially tempting’ Saudi offer this summer, according to reports.
A Danish publication has provided an update on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham Hotspur, but the player himself appears to have dismissed rumors linking him to a move to Saudi Arabia.
Since joining Spurs in 2020, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has played an important role, but he has recently fallen down the pecking order under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
Hojbjerg has had to make do with substitute appearances this season because of the success of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in this new-look Tottenham team.
For much of the summer, it was speculated that Hojbjerg was on his way out of the club, with Atletico Madrid rumored to be interested (Daily Mail).
Fulham reportedly made a £30 million bid for Hojbjerg on deadline day (Football Insider), but the 28-year-old turned it down. According to the Daily Mail, Hojbjerg believed he was capable of playing at a better level than Fulham could provide.
The transfer window has already closed, and according to Football Insider, Spurs are hoping to keep Hojbjerg despite rumors of an approach from Saudi Arabia.
Hojbjerg will not comment on Saudi interest.
Whether Hojbjerg wants to stay at Spurs or not is debatable, but the player is not interested in debating the situation.
When asked about his future by Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet (via Sport Witness), Hojbjerg simply stated, “I am looking forward to the match against San Marino.”
According to the publication, a “very financially attractive” offer for Hojbjerg had been made by an anonymous team from the Middle East.
Spurs Online Opinion
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we should keep Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. He’s a key squad member who still has a lot to offer. Besides, I don’t think he’d want to transfer to Saudi Arabia, given how he was hesitant to move to Fulham because he considered it as a decline in standards.
